ArtCenter Car Classic 2017: Red White and Blue

Pasadena CA, Oct 22 2017 - Inspired by the international auto racing colors of rosso corsa, white with Cunningham stripes and Bleu de France, The ArtCenter Car Classic 2017 was divided along lines of color.

Every year one wonders what the ArtCenter folks are going to do differently to change it up - what's the heart grabbing theme that will be remembered compared to so many other great years? Red, White & Blue is a multi-nation tribute to the automotive design giants of Italy, United States of America and France.

The Car Classic organizers' challenge to field representative cars was somewhat more difficult this year given the color combination matches with one particular country's cars.

Finding a red Italian car in southern California is a slam dunk short list of phone calls.

Finding a field white American classic design automobiles would be achieved with a whisper in the wind.

Filling the infield with blue French cars in particular, however - would be a worthy challenge. Blue cars are like blue flowers - while blue is the top half color of our world view, you just don't see it much on moving petal or metal. Alas, French cars have not sold as well here either - design quality notwithstanding.

Special Car Store spoke to a few of the American designers in attendance. Grant Delgatty of URB-E fame showed off a electric chopper bicycle project; Pete Callaway polishes off the shooting-brake design on the new Callaway Corvette Aerowagen, and Gary Wales waxes eloquently about "Black Prince" - a custom design based on a 1934 Bentley.
