Bloomington Gold Great Hall 2014: Production Milestone
The C7 Production Milestone
Technologically Fast – Will this Flash Gordon technology machine capable of 26% of the speed of sound ever be more historically significant than it is today? Will they be the last ones produced?
After six generations of Corvettes, what’s left for the seventh to pioneer or accomplish? How many young Gen Y adults want to own one? How many will in five years? How many gray haired boomers can still fold themselves into one?
Whoever has the answers to these questions may be more historically significant than the vehicle. The answers are no more predictable for the C7 than they were in 1957. Since 1955, Corvette repeatedly came within a breath of extinction. However, Corvette repeatedly introduced “the most powerful standard model ever” and managed to survive longer than all but tow other American nameplates – Suburban and F Series trucks.
Unlike 1956 when Corvette played a long shot competing at Sebring, today’s Corvette can win against the world’s supercars on road and track. It’s so historically different.
We’ll have to see if the 2014 C7 is that ‘last’ most powerful Corvette or if it’s just the last one to date?
What do you think?
