MAVTV's New Won & Done Drag Racing Show

Irwindale CA Feb 8 2013 - The first episode of a brand new, highly-competitive television show VERY aptly-named "Won & Done" was filmed at the Dragstrip at Irwindale Event Center this past Thursday night in front of an approving crowd of very excited fans. "It was a great night for everyone," said track GM Bob Klein. "Our fans and our drivers were all blown away by the show and the fact that the night's competitors for the TV show are all chosen right at the track, they ran eight pairs last night, and they paid our drivers $4,000 cash ... who doesn't like that."

The new show, set to begin airing in early spring, is an exclusive production of MAVTV a new and very aggressive national TV network owned and operated by Lucas Oil Products. The network's "American Real" could not be a better way to explain a show like "Won & Done". Drag racing was born in southern California and the name Irwindale stands out as one of storied places where organized drag races first were run in the late 50's on tracks like legendary IR...WIN...DALE RACEWAY that was located just across the 605 from IEC.

And the racing, as one might sense when the name Rick Christensen is mentioned as one of the key components, was fierce. As the host of this intense exercise that culminates in one run down the Irwindale track for all the marbles,* this tall, tightly-wound guy kept the action on a full boil from the first minute that the first pair was chosen for the first match race of the evening until the last run of the evening at about 9:30.

HERE'S THE REAL DEAL: Two vehicles compete in a single drag race where everything about the race is negotiable, from the lanes, the distance, the car lengths and the start. One race, one negotiation, one chance to get it right!  Once the negotiation is finalized, the vehicles line up and the first racer to the finish-line wins. The winner earns $500 and the right to compete another day.  The loser car's VIN number is recorded and that vehicle is DONE forever... Banned for life from the MAVTV show.

... AND HERE'S WHAT MAKES THAT DEAL WORK: Any vehicle that stays undefeated for 10 races, wins a nice $50,000 bonus!

Rich Christensen created and hosts the series which features Morgan Lucas, NHRA Top Fuel competitor and son of MAVTV owner Forrest Lucas. The on-screen chemistry between the cool-as-a-cumber 300MPH+ driving star (Lucas) and the white-hot negotiator, pot-stirrer, and manic race starter (Christensen) is nothing but a pure delight.

Show episodes will be shot the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month on the Dragstrip at Irwindale Event Center in Irwindale, California from 4pm to 10pm. The show parings will be integrated into the track's regular Thursday Night Test-N-Tune session. All fans of the show are welcome to attend.

*(which includes a 4"x 6" window sticker that simply says: WON & DONE and that, after last Thursday night, was well on its way to becoming one of the most coveted "win" decals in southern California drag racing. Stick ten of them on your car, truck, or motorcycle and there's $50,000 bucks coming your way.)

Opened in 2000, Irwindale's 1/8-mile NHRA-sanctioned Dragstrip is located on the Irwindale Event Center complex. The Dragstrip shares the property with a NASCAR 1/2-mile banked oval ("Irwindale Speedway"), and the facilities for the L.A. Racing Experience, a racing experience "school" that puts anyone with a driver's license into the driver's seat of a 450-horsepower stock car on the famous Irwindale oval.

Irwindale stages its test-n-tune sessions every Thursday night (except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) and anyone with valid driver's license can race their street-legal automobile against the NHRA clocks (or a buddy) for just $20. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, kids 12 and under pay $5 bucks, and kids under 5 are in free; there's plenty of good track food, and parking is always free. http://www.irwindalespeedway.com/
