Pre-Mother's Day Show & Drag at Irwindale Speedway
Irwindale CA, May 8 2014 - In what may well be the most unique way (ever) thought of to celebrate Mom ... the MoonEyes magicians have officially designated the Saturday before Mom's special day as the day for the celebration of all things old school related cars and early Kalifornia Kar (and motorcycles) Kulture...
World-renown for throwing their gala annual winter Holiday bash at Irwindale, the MoonEyes honchos have decided that one west coast event is not anywhere near hardly enough ... And they further decided that May 10, 2014 would be the perfect day to prove that point.

A bit hard to describe (except in a run-on sentence), the MoonEyes Car Show and Drag Race is hot rods, customs, choppers, low riders, rat rods, Beetles, Buicks, 1/8-mile drag races for pre 1969 cars, live bands, Chevies, vendors of all manner of wild and wonderful stuff, Oldsmobiles, pin up contests, pin-striping, art auctions, Fords, great food and drink, a "Cacklefest" (that means revving up 1,000 horsepower drag racing engines just for the sound of it) and hundreds of the most interesting, most eclectic, most electric bunch of show goers ever assembled at any event anywhere.
A MoonEyes party at Irwindale Speedway is an up-to-speed, up-to-the-minute, full-on, super-celebration of retro. Rolled-up dungarees, slicked-back hair, bangs, ponytails, cerise lipstick, heavy eye shadow, narrow brim hipster hats, and chain-drive wallets are the order of the day. Hip is as hip does ... and the MoonEyes faithful pull off "hip" about as good as any group anywhere on the planet.
The gates open on all of the above (and much, much more ... believe it) very early on May 10 ... 6AM to be exact. The show starts early and runs until late afternoon. And the prices to get aboard are about as "retro" as the theme: its ten bucks to park and just five bucks to get in (12 and up). The best deal is sharing one car among a number of people not only to keep costs down, but to have a great time getting there and having a whole lot to talk about on the way home.
MoonEyes truly is an authentic California cultural phenomenon. For ten hours on the second Saturday in May it transforms the Speedway's main parking lot and Drag Strip into someplace unique ... someplace quite special where the clock spins backwards and people smile at you and say hello.
Turns out that there's only one way to really understand the phenomena though ... and that's with a visit. See ya here?
Remember it's an early call: Gates open at 6AM Saturday
