Newport Beach CA, June 19 2014 - Newport Beach and cars just seem to go together like wine and cheese. Many of the exotic car manufacturers have dealerships along this stretch of the coast. The obvious reason is that this is a place full of customers that might actually be able to buy at the high end.
Russo and Steele have come to the right town to tap into that vein of car connoisseurs. If you come you may as well come in force – 450 car strong, the Newport Beach Dunes Waterfront Resort parking lot has one of each kind and color. That huge lot funnels the cars into the belly of the auction ring – this time a close and cozy theater where you get a first-hand look.
1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible sold $49,500
Darin Roberge was busy for weeks getting cars to the lot. He explained that the Newport Beach auction setting was designed to be upscale, comfortable and fitting for the local clientele.
“This auction format is like a cross between a car show and a rock concert. There’s lots going on – no silent auctions going on here. It’s loud and colorful. If Gene Simmonds ever put on an automobile event, this is what he would do!”
The waterfront setting is an added charm – nothing better to take a minute out of the concert for a moment of reflection in the water.
Russo and Steele’s auction runs through Saturday – less than an hour drive for most of LA. Next auction June 10-12 2016.
